National Defence Academy

The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the Joint Services academy of the Indian Armed Forces. NDA or National Defence Academy is a national institute for training selected young men for officer level entry into the Armed forces of India. The training at NDA is broken into six terms and the total duration of training is three years. Points to remember before applying NDA Exam.

  • Only unmarried males between the age of 16.5 to 19 can apply.
  • Their marital status should be unmarried
  • Cleared or appearing (10+2) with science stream
  • This NDA  exam is conducted twice a year, these are known as “NDA 1 in April and “NDA” 2 in September.

The written test conducted by UPSC will consist of objective questions based on maths and general ability. After clearing the test one has to go through a five day interview process with the State Selection Board for evaluation of the potentialities of officers(Intelligence and Personality Test). Besides, the interview, one has to go through the intelligence Tests both verbal and non-verbal, designed to assess the basic intelligence. After the test, one has to undergo the Medical test.

Educational Qualifications

Army Wing of National Defence Academy: 12th class pass of the 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent examination conducted by a state education board or a university

Air Force and Naval Wing of National Defence Academy and 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy: 12th class pass of the 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University

Candidates who are appearing in the 12th class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this examination

Those candidates who have yet to qualify in the 12th class or equivalent examination and are allowed to appear in the UPSC examination should note that this is only a special concession given to them

They are required to submit proof of passing the 12th class or equivalent exam by the prescribed date and no request for extending this date will be entertained on the grounds of late conduct of Board/University Examination, delay in declaration of results or any other ground whatsoever

NDA Exam Pattern & NDA Coaching in Chandigarh

NDA Exam is a mixture of 2 Different Paper of 900 Marks generally known as Paper-1 for Math Portion & Paper-2 for General ability Portion. Paper 1 holds the Mathematics Part of +1 & +2 level for which time limit is only of 2.5 hours & it contains 300 marks. Paper -2 holds the General Ability Test & has same time limit of 2.5 hours but it consists of 600 marks. Paper 2 consists of General Knowledge 400 Marks and General English 200 Marks. Combining these both papers written exam carries 900 marks in total.

Paper-1:  Mathematics Syllabus: This Portion consists of chapters like Algebra, Trigonometry, Probability, Matrices & Determinants, Analytical Geometry, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus & etc.

Paper-2:  General Ability: This Portion Consists of English & General Knowledge. English: The question paper in English is to judge the candidate’s ability to understand English. The syllabus includes various parts like: Grammar and usage, vocabulary, comprehension to test candidate’s proficiency in English. General Knowledge: This Section will cover the subjects: Physics, Chemistry, General Science, Social Studies, Geography and Current Events.

NDA Exam Pattern – Scheme of Examination

1.The subjects of the written examination, number of questions, the time allowed and the maximum marks allotted to each subject are as follows.

Paper-I Mathematics: (Maximum marks 300)

  • Part B General Knowledge (Maximum Marks – 400)

General Ability Test has six sections with the break-up of 400 marks as below:

  • Physics  100 marks.
  • Chemistry 60 marks.
  • General Science 40 marks.
  • History, Freedom Movement etc.  80 marks.
  • Geography  80 marks.
  • Current Events  40 marks.
